Of the Top 10 movies of all time, only Titanic is a “true” story

O

The rest are about blue people in forests, dinosaurs, cartoon lions, fast cars, and superheroes

I’ve only struggled my way through a few of them because – no surprise for a Value investor – Fantasy is not my genre

What I do remember from the Titanic, is there weren’t enough lifeboats

Only 20 – able to accommodate a little over half the 2223 people on board

According to Wiki, sadly many lifeboats only carried half their maximum capacity leaving 70% of the passengers to drown

The largest vessel ever built

Considered invincible

Sunk by an obvious risk

The parallels with the market are chilling

Have the largest companies in history – $6trn in four companies – hit icebergs?

According to Bloomberg, over 90% of broker analysts still rate AMZN, MSFT, and GOOG a BUY so it seems there’s a feeling of “invincibility” in the air

Yet the share prices are now “sinking” – for different reasons

The Tesla “Captain” thinks he’s “invincible”

He hasn’t been on the “bridge” for months and after his rants, perhaps not many of his non-Trumpian passengers will ever “book” again

I’m sure “Bezo” has been on the “bridge”

But only on his own $500m Dutch-built boat, not the one the “passengers” are still crammed in

Hopefully, he needs a few deckhands and can employ some of the 18000 Amazon employees we’ve just heard are being “let go”

and hopefully, their share options become immediately exercisable to help with them with the cost-of-living crisis

Funded by shareholders of course but don’t worry

It’s sure to appear in the accounts as “Non-cash” & “Non-GAAP”

i.e. “Non-Sense”

The good news is that “Zuck” WAS on the bridge

The bad news is he had his VR goggles on

So either there’s no ice in the Metaverse or he didn’t see it

Much like the many active fund managers

Which is a little hard to understand given that Apple’s IOS change was unlike most icebergs – it was 100% visible!

Of course. I forgot.

Icebergs are in the benchmark…

An obvious risk

The first lifeboat only launched an hour after the ship struck the ice

The Captain didn’t believe the reality of the situation and was slow to act

Sadly the passengers who believed him, stayed on board too long and drowned

Did the “ship” you’re on, hit ice last year?

Is your “Captain” denying reality?

Well if you’re contemplating a “rescue attempt” by HMS Active Value

don’t wait too long,

There aren’t enough lifeboats for $6trn
